Being a full time parent means that you don't always get time to workout and keep track of your health. With a little bit of planning however, you can get both you and your family active!
1. Start a Family Sport
Going hiking, skiing, backpacking, or even on daily walks as a family is a wonderful way to get in some great exercise. Your kids will have a great time, and you’ll be able to spend some quality time with them as well.
2. Dance Party
Kids love getting up and dancing! Use this opportunity to occasionally have a dance party. Put on your favorite tunes, and get your kids to party!
3. Errands and Exercise
Try walking to the store instead of driving, or even multiple trips from the car to the house when carrying shopping bags. Using the stairs instead of the escalator is movement hack that should never be overlooked. Also encourage your kids to come out with you when you run errands, it'll get them in the habit getting up and moving.
4. Fitness Breaks During Commercials
We all hate commercials, so why not make the time go by faster? During commercial breaks, get your family up and moving! Do some jumping jacks, squats, or even some pushups.
5. Turn Chores Into Mini Exercises
Who said chores have to be boring? Turn your household chores into small games for you and your kids. For example, try having a squat competition when folding laundry. Get creative with the different games you can think of!
6. Attend A Torch Ruck Event
Every month Torch Ruck holds community “rucking” events. People get together at these events, wear their backpacks, and walk! There is not much more to it. All “rucking” events are family friendly. We recommend you check the difficulty of a “ruck” before you bring young children. Oh and we have to mention some rucks are even PET FRIENDLY! Check out the Frederick chapter’s Facebook page for upcoming events.
7. Join a “Mommy and Me “ Class
Many gyms and yoga studios offer amazing mommy and me classes. As a parent of younger kids, this is a great way to not only get in your exercise, but to also make some great friendships with other wonderful moms.
8. Get Gardening
Gardening takes a lot of physical work; digging, squatting, lifting up heavy soil bags, etc. When landscaping, make sure to get your whole family involved. Gardening can be a great way to spend some time with your kids, while also making the lawn look beautiful!
